McCain has finally put Trump in his place in a recent piece he’s written.
Donald Trump has made it clear that he doesn’t like Senator John McCain of Arizona.
In 2015, he made a disgusting statement at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa, saying that McCain is “not a war hero.”
“He’s not a war hero,” said Trump. “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
This was of course in reference to the roughly five-and-a-half years that McCain spent in the well-known North Vietnamese prison camp known as the “Hanoi Hilton.” McCain, while serving as a Navy pilot, was mercilessly tortured there, and even spent 2 years in solitary confinement.
Because of this, McCain has never shied away from attacking Trump
“Mr. Arpaio was found guilty of criminal contempt for continuing to illegally profile Latinos living in Arizona based on their perceived immigration status in violation of a judge’s orders,” McCain said in a statement.
“The President has the authority to make this pardon, but doing so at this time undermines his claim for the respect of rule of law as Mr. Arpaio has shown no remorse for his actions.”
What’s Happening Now:
During another rough week for America at the hands of President Trump, McCain has come out with another firm message to Trump.
He tells Trump that, despite what he thinks, Congress doesn’t answer to him.
“We must respect his authority and constitutional responsibilities. We must, where we can, cooperate with him. But we are not his subordinates. We don’t answer to him. We answer to the American people,” McCain wrote in a Washington Post op-ed.
“We must be diligent in discharging our responsibility to serve as a check on his power. And we should value our identity as members of Congress more than our partisan affiliation,” he added.
This comes a few weeks after Trump attacked fellow Senator Mitch McConnell:
“The only problem I have with Mitch McConnell is that, after hearing Repeal & Replace for 7 years, he failed! That should NEVER have happened!”

Another week, Trump attacked another lawmaker from Arizona, Jeff Flake, saying, “Great to see that Dr. Kelli Ward is running against Flake Jeff Flake, who is WEAK on borders, crime and a non-factor in Senate. He’s toxic!”

Why does Trump seem hell bent not only on destroying democracy, but also his own party?
Honestly, is he just picking fights for the sake of picking them? And if he is, is that really a quality we want the leader of the free world possessing?
Trump has always worried me with his man-baby like tendencies, but now he’s gone from predictably petty to “Oh god, what’s he going to do now?”
