As reports swirl about the president’s mental health and competency, his speech about Jerusalem might have put another nail in his coffin. [VIDEO BELOW]
On Wednesday, Trump took the unprecedented step of recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The United States and other nations have in the past avoided that clarification because Jerusalem is one of the most politically charged and debated locations in the world. It has major roots for Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, which has created issues of ownership over years of war.
The U.S. will also move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem as an extension of its recognition, something Trump promised to do while along the campaign trail.
While this is an example of Trump keeping a promise to his voters, many have been shocked by the move. It could spark major protests across the region and halt peace talks.
What’s Happening Now:
In a speech announcing the recognition of Jerusalem, Trump ran into some problems towards the end.
In the video below, he slurs the last few sentences and seems to struggle to get through his words.
Some have called this evidence of mental illness or the onset of dementia, while others have said that Trump must use dentures and they started to fall out towards the end of his speech.
Former presidential campaign manager to Senator John McCain, Steve Schmidt, who is intimate with the meaning of unstable, said in response to the speech that Trump was clearly slurring his words and that the impairment that appeared in the video is “chilling.”
Schmidt appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” alongside one man who has been the victim of Trump’s relentless and needless Twitter attacks, Joe Scarborough. Trump recently insinuated Scarborough was responsible for the death of one his aides, something that one of his most ardent supporters has threatened to leave the MAGA movement for.
“I don’t know the cause of it, but when you combine it with [Sen.] Bob Corker’s critique that the president of the United States is unstable, that he’s dangerous, when you look at the private comments that are made by members of Congress around his stability, you look at his actions in recent weeks,” said Schmidt on air. “The question of his fitness, of his stability, is in the air. And it doesn’t get better when you see clear impairments.”
According to “The Art of the Deal” writer Tony Schwartz, Trump staffers have been whispering about the fact that he’s deranged.
Schmidt was concerned that we do not have an update on Trump’s health even though he remains in control of the entire country.
Trump’s speech is strange to watch, and the way he stumbled over his words towards the end does call into question what exactly went wrong; more notably, why the White House has attributed the issue to dry throat, which aides must know won’t hold up.
However, conspiracy theories surrounding the president’s health when not entirely warranted can prove to be dangerous territory.
During the election, Hillary Clinton fainted of heat stroke and was accused of not being fit for the Oval Office. Her unfounded “lack of stamina” was a stick Trump beat her with throughout the entirety of the campaign until his victory.
If Trump is hiding something, that is worth investigating. But unfounded claims that rely on reading way too much into the situation at hand is never the way to go.
